Wow--you've got lots of stuff on your site and I started to read all of them and then I thought I'd just handle one at a time, because it is a great way to stay in touch and you're so open and honest--I love the way you write my good friend Karie! (was that a run-on sentence? oh well)

Anyway, yeah, that's really cool about Hannukah--I'm looking forward to your next posting where you talk about what you learned. We do have a menorrah, but the little "candle holder" parts on it are so tiny it's basically impossible to get candles that size that will stay in it--THEN I found out later that they're not for candles! They're for a little drop of oil--you're actually supposed to burn oil in the one we got. My mom found out a few years ago (like 6 or so) that we were looking for one and she found this at a yard sale. Maybe it's old? Don't know how to tell but it's the kind that looks like it was made in India--brass and not real big but it does have a Star of David on it, which I unfortunately just found out of late from a book I stumbled upon that the star of David is actually a Masonic symbol--have you ever heard that? I'm hoping it's not true, but again, I wouldn't be surprised--I always did wonder where it came from and one time when we were in dc I actually walked up the Israeli security soldiers who were guarding the Israeli embassy and asked them where the symbol came from (it was all over the place on their big iron fence surrounding the grounds). They were as stumped as me and started passing the word all around to the other soldiers trying to figure it out. None of them knew which I thought strange. Then I looked it up on the internet once and it was so nebulous I gave up. So what kind of knowledge do you have of that, Dr. Masterson??? Okay, I guess that's all I'm gonna write today--but I'm definitely going to try and stay in touch with you through this--I remember years ago when we tried e-mailing back and forth and it always fizzled out. This might be better (even though we can't pull up your photos). Speaking of which--your family photo is awesome. You guys look great! You'll have to write an entry sometime on Eric's lead guitar work--or rhythm or whatever he does. He's looking very cool. That is soooo awesome about Aimee's 1st place and 7th place winnings in the competition--7th in the state! Wow--that's amazing! The fact that she's disappointed in not getting 1st is a good thing though because it'll keep her striving for the best--go Aimee! Oh, and by the way, how is the book coming along (the wilderness book)? I really got a lot out of reading it. It was very inspiring and motivating and insightful. Ok, I really am leaving now! Blessings!--Nance

I really don't know about the origin of the Star of David. I'll look into it. The book is being edited right now. Thanks for reading it and your helpful comments. I'll be sure to have a menorrah for next year's Hanukkah.
